Grief Resources For Students, Families, and Staff:
For students who want to access individual or group therapy, there are a variety of options. Daniela (D11), can help guide you to the option that’s best for you:
- A therapist through your insurance (including Medi-Cal) if applicable.
- A virtual therapist through Daybreak- San Lorenzo Unified School District contracts with them, and this service is virtual and free.
- There are therapists available on campus, through various agencies.
- For LGBTQ+ students, Side by Side offers individual and group counseling at their Our Space location.
- For grief-specific counseling:
- Crisis Support Services of Alameda County offers individual and group grief therapy.
- East Bay Agency for Children offers peer-support groups for students and their caregivers.
- For students experiencing suicidal ideation and wanting specific support, there is ORCA (Organizing and Responding to Crisis for Alameda Youth).
Online Resources:
- For students and caregivers of students experiencing thoughts of suicide, there is Never a Bother.
- East Bay Agency for Children has a resource created by their Circle of Care titled Tools and Resources for Supporting Grieving Children.
- Kara- This organization has a wealth of resources on their website, and offers support for teens, families, and school communities, in addition to peer support groups. Their focus is on supporting through grief.
- Children’s Health Council has many online resources to guide students and families through grief and loss.
- Standby Support After Suicide is based in Australia, but has some good resources for students and families who have been impacted by suicide.
- The Dougy Center is a Portland-based organization that supports children, teens, young adults, and caregivers through grief. They have a great library of resources.
